We founded Grand Family Coalition because of the struggles faced when trying to prevent our daughters and their children from entering the foster system. My story has been 16 years in the making. My Co-Founder however lost her daughter through her journey in the child welfare system way before Family First, and why we worked so hard to support families here in Colorado. Our stories led me to sit on the Colorado Family First Implementation Team back in 2019 and continue to advocate for families. If Family First would have been there for us things might have been a little different today. Co-Founder Becky Saville, suffered the loss of her daughter, and her grandchildren were placed in Kinship Care (which was not a thing in 2018). Today we are implementing prevention through Family First. I hope you will share her story or at least find it inspiring enough to share and motivate you to keep asking, Why Family First?
Family First Prevention Service Act was signed into law on February 9, 2018. Becky passed away on February 23, 2018, but not before struggling for ten years to get stability for her grandchildren, and help for her daughter. Most tragically they both lost their lives because of a lack of support. Please read Becky’s Story HERE
